Notes from How To Stay In Love
I first became aware of James Sexton, a New York based divorce lawyer in June 2024 via The Iced Coffee Hour podcast where he was discussing his work and his book, How To Stay In Love. When first published in hard back his book was titled “If You’re in My Office, It’s Already Too Late”, however his publisher advised him to change the title for the softback publication as people were reluctant to buy a book with such a negative title.
I was immediately drawn in by James’s charismatic personality and his straight talking delivery, combined with the idea of improving my own romantic relationship by learning from other relationships that have failed and ended in divorce. Over the next couple of months I sort out and listened to several additional interviews with James including the Soft White Underbelly, Lex Fridman, The Diary Of A CEO Part 1 & Part 2, and Who We Are with Rachel Lim.
Despite working on hundreds of divorce cases during his career, and being divorced himself, James still believes that there is something magical about romantic relationships and love. This is part what inspired him to write his book. As you would expect, there are common themes related to love, marriage and divorce that are covered in each of these interviews.
